High Tech Check-In
Our office in Duluth Georgia utilizes EMR “electronic medical records” software which is allows you to do all your initial paperwork in an electronic "paperless" format. It is HIPPA compliant which allows us to maintain your Electronic Health Records. This system provides clear and concise documentation, while allowing us to submit copies of your medical records to attorney offices, insurance companies and other health care facilities in a more timely and efficient manner. It also helps the environment!
Upon entering our office, you will be provided with a clip board with a “welcome sheet” to fill out. You will provide your basic demographic information including, your name, age, insurance information, emergency contact info and other important information. You will also be asked to include your primary complaints and reason for visiting our office. That information will be used to set up your file in our system and you will be assigned a patient number. After that, the rest of your information will be completed on a table PC. You do not need to a computer expert be computer savvy to enter your information. This whole process usually takes about 20 minutes to complete.
Consultation / History
Once you have been entered into the system and check-In is complete, you will have a private consultation with Dr. Hans. During that time, the doctor will be gathering information regarding your medical history, social history, family history, known allergies, past surgeries/hospitalizations, current medications you may be taking and other important information.
In order to determine what is causing your problem, Dr. Hans will perform a detailed examination consisting of palpation, range of motion, muscle test, orthopedic test, neurological test, and anything else that may be helpful in helping him to obtain an accurate diagnosis.
MRI or X-Ray Studies
Your specific condition may require Dr. Hans to refer you out for additional diagnostic test including, X-Rays, an MRI or CT Scan. In some cases, this is helpful to determine a more accurate diagnosis such as a herniated or bulging disc, spinal stenosis, facet syndrome or a number of other conditions that could be causing your symptoms. If Dr. Hans’ feels that you would benefit from medical co-management we would refer you to the appropriate professional. Our office works in a cooperative fashion with other health care professionals, including orthopedist, neurologist and pain management clinics, to see that you get the best care available.
If x-rays are recommended, special care is given to avoid unnecessary X-ray exposure, while making sure that the best care is provided for all. If you are pregnant, please make sure to let our office know.
Same Day Treatment
Once finished with the initial examination and consultation, patients are generally treated the same day. This may include a number of different therapies designed to relieve pain and begin the healing process. Some of the therapies that we provide include, EMS (electrical muscle stimulation), traction, therapeutic ultrasound, manual therapy techniques, cold laser therapy using 35 watts of laser light energy to reduce inflammation and various forms spinal adjustments. We provide safe, effective and pain free treatments designed to decrease pain and get you back to yourself again. All treatments are determined by Dr. Hans on a case by case basis.
Prior to leaving our office, you will be given specific instructions on certain activities or procedures to be performed at home. This may include the use of ice or heat, home exercises and/or stretches, proper lifting techniques, nutritional advice and certain activities to avoid in order to prevent an exacerbation of your symptoms. Any outside referral recommendations may be made at that time.
