Do I Have to Pay?
With any auto accident, regardless if you were a passenger in a vehicle, the driver or a pedestrian, the at-fault party's insurance carrier will pay for you're treatment if you are not at fault. This is referred to as liability coverage. In the state of Georgia everyone is required to carry liability insurance in case you injure another person in an auto accident. Some people have "medical payment coverage" through their own auto insurance policy. This covers injuries to anyone who is in your vehicle, regardless of who is at fault. In Georgia, this is an option and not everyone has it. It is a separate addition to your coverage, not to be confused with "bodily injury" coverage. If you do not have "med-pay" we can still treat you for your injuries with no out of pocket expense to you as long as the at fault party (person who hit you) has liability coverage. If they are not insured, you should check to see if you have "uninsured motorist" on your policy. This is also an additional option of coverage similar to med-pay, which can also pay for your medical expenses and anyone else who was in your vehicle when the accident occurred, if the at fault party does not have insurance.
At Duluth Injury & Rehab, we will verify your auto insurance coverage for you and directly bill your insurance for care in our office at no cost to you if you have medical payment coverage. Your insurance company would collect this money back from the at fault party at the end of treatment.

What To Do "Now" Before an Auto Accident
If you've recently been involved in an auto accident, we will work with your attorney and/or insurance coverage on a lien. Litigation cases are accepted on an individual basis. If you have "medical payments" on your auto insurance policy, these claims are typically paid at 100% with no deductible or co-pay. The benefit to having "medical coverage" through your automobile insurance is that the doctor bills are paid to the doctor directly through your med pay. Therefore, when your case is settled you don't have to worry about having to pay the doctor bills out of your settlement. Most of the time, your insurance company can be billed directly by the doctor's office.
We'll will work with your attorney on your settlement or lien. If you don’t have an attorney we will help you find the best legal representation at No Cost To You!
Facts About Auto Accident Injuries
According to both the US Department of Transportation (USDOT) and National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), traffic accidents can be broken down this way:
- Every 14 seconds, someone is injured in an automobile accident.
- Accidents are largely the result of drunk drivers (40%), speeding (30%) and reckless driving (33%)
- About 3 million people experience whiplash, neck and back injuries. Of these, 1.5 million will recover.
- Another 600,000 will continue to have long-term symptoms and pain, and another 150,000 will become disabled to a specific degree each year as a result of whiplash.
- 50% of accident victims sustain injuries to the lower back, and of these 15% develop serious nerve damage.
Auto accidents can cause post-traumatic osteoarthritis. Osteoarthritis can ruin a person’s posture by giving them a slumped or hump back appearance. Osteoarthritis can cause the discs in the spine to degenerate and create scar tissue formation leading to chronic stiffness and the inability to move properly. Proper treatment can prevent osteoarthritis.
Facts About Whiplash
Whiplash occurs when the neck and the head experience a sudden, sharp motion. The injury often affects the bones, muscles, nerves, and tendons at the neck.
The severity of whiplash injuries increases substantially when a person’s head is rotated (like when speaking with someone) or inclined (like when looking up and out through the rear view mirror) during an accident.
Some whiplash injuries are easily detected after an accident. Many injuries, however, may take hours, weeks, or even months before symptoms are noticed and properly diagnosed. This is caused in part by the bleeding and formation of scar tissue that occurs in the deep soft tissues that surround the injured area.
Studies indicate that injury can occur at impact speeds of 8 mph where there is little or even no damage to the car. Even in these types of accidents, the head can receive up to 2ó times more force than the car itself.
Chiropractic Care After an Auto Accident Injury
If you have been involved in an auto accident chiropractic care is a great alternative to taking pain killers and other prescribed medication such as anti-inflammatories and muscle relaxers. Chiropractic care has been proven to be safe and effective to not only decrease pain, muscle spasms and inflammation; it also increases range of motion and loosens tight and restricted spinal joints. Our office combines specific chiropractic adjustments, physiotherapy and spinal rehabilitative exercises to strengthen the para spinal musculature so you will hold your adjustments longer while retraining the muscles that support the spine. This allows you to heal properly and more quickly after an auto accident.
Chiropractic Care for “Whiplash,” Neck, and Back Pain
Chiropractic care may alleviate the pain and symptoms associated with the whiplash injury without the use of prescribed medication. Headaches, neck pain and pain between both shoulder blades are often a direct result of a whiplash injury. These types of injuries can be treated effectively often without the use of drugs or surgery using a combination of chiropractic care, physical therapy and rehabilitative exercises designed to strengthen the spinal muscles and associated soft tissues.
Is Chiropractic Care Effective After an Auto Accident Injury?
Injuries to ligaments, tendons, muscles, nerves, and discs cannot be detected by traditional x-ray or medical exams.
A chiropractic evaluation includes orthopedic and neurological examinations to begin the process of rehabilitation. Chiropractors will check the alignment to see if there are misaligned vertebrae that occurred during the accident. Misaligned vertebrae are the leading cause of pinched nerves, which lead to muscle spasms and other life threatening conditions.

One moment everything may seem fine, when suddenly you’re involved in a serious collision. Most people have one thing on their mind after a car accident their car! However, it’s important to remember that you and your injuries come first. A visit to a chiropractor should always follow an auto injury, as chiropractors are specialists in damage to soft and hard tissue.
How Can a Chiropractor Help Me After My Auto Accident?
Chiropractors are able to treat neck and back injuries associated with auto accidents. Many times, individuals who have been injured in a car accident experience such intense muscle pain and stiffness that they simply cannot function normally. When left untreated, this discomfort can be a serious issue.
After an auto accident, some individuals experience indicators of whiplash injuries right away, such as blurred vision, headaches, shoulder pain, dizziness, reduced range of motion and arm pain. Whiplash can also result in minor back injuries, muscle injuries, ligament problems, and disc damage. Other individuals may be injured and feel nothing at all.
Treating pain or whiplash should never be secondary to bringing your car at the mechanic or working with your insurance company. If you’ve had an auto accident recently, your first priority should be taking the initiative to visit your chiropractor!
We’ll Connect You With a Personal Injury Lawyer After Your Accident
If you’ve been hurt in a car accident, in addition to medical care from our Duluth chiropractor, you may also need legal help. It’s important that you speak with a personal injury attorney about your accident immediately after your injuries are treated. The longer you wait, the less likely your chances will be of obtaining the compensation you need.
Why Should You See an Attorney Immediately After Treatment?
After an accident, there are many forms and claim notices that have short time deadlines to file — some of which may be only a number of days. Only an experienced personal injury lawyer knows how to fill out and file these forms and claim notices correctly. These forms should be filled out and filed by your attorney.
You may be required to file an accident report with the Department of Motor Vehicles within days of the accident if:
- Someone is injured
- There is substantial property damage
This form will usually be sent to you by your insurance company. You should give this form to your attorney to assist you in completing it. Additionally, if a municipality may be liable for any part of your injuries — such as improper road design or a missing sign — you must file a notice of claim with the municipality, usually within 90 days of the date of accident. Your attorney must do this for you. The insurance company for the person(s) responsible for your injuries should be immediately notified of your claim by your attorney, because failure to do so can allow the insurance company to decline coverage.
