Quit smoking, maintain a healthy weight, wash your hands, wear a mask, and drink alcohol in moderation. The tips below are those that will not only help avoid infection during cold and flu season, but they’ll keep you feeling healthy and energized all year long. 

1. Eat a Nutrient-Dense Diet

Nutrient deficiencies can lead to lowered immune response. Eat a nutrient-dense diet, rich in vitamins and minerals, such as: 

  • Fresh fruits and vegetables
  • Whole grains
  • Nuts and seeds
  • Beans and legumes

Don’t forget to drink water, at least eight to ten glasses per day is optimal. Also, reduce your intake of highly processed, sugar-loaded foods, which can increase inflammation and lower immune health.
