text neck neck painIt’s 2019, and text neck is ever-prevailing in our society.

What is text neck, you may ask? Well, it’s caused by looking down at devices for long periods. Many people spend countless hours on their phones every day – looking down and straining their necks. As a result, neck pain, shoulder pain, upper back pain, and lower back pain ensue.

There are ways to avoid text neck, and if you already suffer from this ailment, chiropractic care is the perfect solution for you. Read on to learn more about preventing text neck and how chiropractic treatment helps.

3 Ways to Avoid Text Neck

Just think about it. The average human head weighs around 10-12 pounds, and it sits atop your delicate spine. When you text, stream videos, or read on your devices, your head is putting a lot of pressure on your spine – often causing strain and muscle stiffness.

A great way to avoid text neck is following along with this checklist:

  • Hold your phone at eye level: Holding your phone in your lap and hunching over is very bad for your neck. Hold your phone at eye level when in use. Likewise, if you are using a computer, adjust your screen monitor to sit at eye level to avoid muscle strain.
  • Take breaks from your devices: Not only could your eyes use a break from your device, but your neck will thank you, too. Make sure you take at least a 10-minute break for every hour you use your phone or device.
  • Stretch Often: It is always a good idea to stretch. Stretching releases tension build-up in the muscles and creates a sense of relaxation, as well.
